ABOUT ICECLEAN SYSTEMS

Family-Owned Innovation in Dry Ice Cleaning Technology

IceClean Systems is a family-owned and operated company dedicated to helping manufacturers improve efficiency, reduce operating costs, extend abrasive life, and create safer working environments through advanced dry ice cleaning technology.

With more than 40 years of combined experience in cryogenics, dry ice blasting, and industrial cleaning applications, our team has focused on developing practical solutions that deliver measurable results for customers across a variety of industries.

Today, IceClean Systems is recognized as a leader in abrasive belt cleaning technology, helping manufacturers reduce abrasive consumption, improve production quality, and lower operating costs through patented dry ice cleaning systems.

Our History

The roots of IceClean Systems trace back to the work of Raymond Friend and The LAW Group, Inc., where the CryoKinetics™ brand was originally established. The company manufactured and supplied dry ice blasting equipment for disaster restoration, remediation, and industrial cleaning applications.

Recognizing a significant opportunity within the woodworking and manufacturing industries, Mr. Friend financed the development of a commercial dry ice abrasive cleaning process designed to restore loaded sanding belts and abrasives rather than replacing them prematurely.

The technology successfully earned a United States patent in 2005 and laid the foundation for a completely new approach to abrasive maintenance and cost reduction.

In 2006, the company introduced its first electronically controlled abrasive belt cleaning systems. While early installations demonstrated the effectiveness of the technology, ongoing development was needed to improve durability, consistency, and industrial performance.

Following the housing and credit recession of 2007 and 2008, the business was temporarily paused while technology development continued.

In 2009, Mr. Friend acquired the company's assets and patent rights and began investing in the next generation of abrasive cleaning systems. Over the following years, significant improvements were made to system controls, reliability, automation, and overall performance.
Upgraded on-sander system, AbraSand™-ON, includes a dry ice blaster, a control panel with PLC system and Human Machine Interface.

Founded on Continuous Improvement

IceClean Systems LLC was officially founded in 2015 with a mission to bring this improved technology to manufacturers seeking a better way to manage abrasive costs and production efficiency.

Since that time, the company has installed dozens of abrasive belt cleaning systems throughout North America and continues to refine and enhance the technology based on real world customer feedback and operating experience.

Many systems have operated for nearly a decade with minimal maintenance requirements while consistently delivering measurable savings and performance improvements.

Our commitment to innovation continues today as we develop new ways to improve cleaning effectiveness, increase automation, and help manufacturers become more efficient and competitive.

Why Manufacturers Choose IceClean Systems

Our customers invest in IceClean Systems for more than abrasive savings alone.

Benefits often include:

  • Significant reductions in abrasive replacement costs
  • Improved sanding consistency and product quality
  • Increased production efficiency
  • Reduced downtime
  • Improved worker safety
  • Lower environmental impact
  • Reduced landfill waste
  • Extended abrasive life

Many customers report cost reductions of 70% to 90% in abrasive-related expenses while also improving operational performance.

A Commitment to Sustainability

One of the most significant benefits of abrasive belt cleaning is its environmental impact.

In many applications, sanding belts are replaced long before they are worn out because they become loaded with material. By removing this buildup and restoring belt performance, manufacturers can dramatically reduce the number of abrasives entering landfills.

This not only reduces waste but also decreases the resources, energy, labor, and transportation required to manufacture replacement abrasives.

By helping customers extend abrasive life multiple times over, IceClean Systems supports both operational efficiency and environmental responsibility.

  • It’s great to work for a company that empowers all employees and contractors to be forward thinkers and concentrate on how to make our clients lower-cost producers. My strength is to focus mainly on the mechanical side, determining how to fit our equipment onto clients’ sanders and other machinery, while adapting our cleaning equipment functions to most efficiently and economically  work with the clients’ cleaning applications. It’s very rewarding to achieve or surpass clients’ expectations.

  • One of my passions is the world we live in and protecting our environment. The benefits that our systems provide to the environment are almost unmatchable. I’ve seen the stacks of abrasive sanding belts that are loaded, replaced, and then discarded. These piles of used sanding belts are filling up our landfills. In most cases, there is no need for this, as most of the time, the belts are not worn out, but are loaded. This load can be removed to find an almost new belt underneath.

Most sanding belts will take many centuries to deteriorate. To cut down on the amount of these abrasives going to the landfills by a factor of 4 times, 6 times, or as many as dozens of times makes a great contribution. In addition, all of the materials, utilities, labor and transportation that go into making the replacements can be avoided. It’s truly one of the best recycling applications there is, with one of the biggest impacts I have ever seen. When you add in that you really get paid to clean your belts via the significant savings, you can’t pass it up.

  • I love what I do. I’m an accountant by training, and I have an absolute connection when I interact with people and their companies to make their products better, to lower their production costs, and improve worker safety. When we lower a client’s cost of sanding by 70% to 90% and make them a lower-cost producer, it makes them stronger. Some companies say their abrasive savings are great, but their most meaningful result of belt cleaning is their quality enhancement, their employee safety enhancement, or their environmental impact. Knowing that our products make things better for wood producers in so many ways keeps us stimulated and striving for a further reach. With our solution, clients order fewer belts and consistently increase efficiency, effectiveness, and safety.
